2010 4thfest Volunteer Job Descriptions

Central Pennsylvania July 4, Inc. is a non-profit organization comprised of a team of volunteers and sponsors dedicated to celebrating America's independence with a day of family fun and the best all-volunteer fireworks display in the nation. Volunteers are dedicated to work year-round and organize what has traditionally been a patriotic, family oriented event designed to serve local businesses and residents of Central Pennsylvania. The all volunteer organization counts on thousands of hours of volunteerism to plan, organize and execute the event. We are always looking for additional help!

Fundraising

Volunteers:  5 people

Members of the 4thFest Fund Raising Committee contact local businesses and individuals to arrange financial support for the Fourth of July event. If you enjoy meeting a wide range of people at companies in the community and helping them select a sponsorship package that fits their situation, this is the volunteer position for you. This team-based effort lets you work with other team members to craft and conduct the annual fund-raising campaign. We have an established database of sponsors who have supported us in the past. You will get to meet with current and prospective sponsors to help them select an appropriate level of sponsorship. Team members also help set up the tables and chairs for the 4th of July Corporate tailgates, meet with visitors and help out in general ways on the Fourth.

• Help plan and implement fundraising programs, packages and efforts to support the Central PA 4th Fest.
• Help establish lists of prospects and develop cultivation and solicitation strategies.
• Work with existing sponsor contact lists and solicit sponsors for the Central PA 4th Fest.
• May assist in writing and editing proposals and other written materials.
• Prepare a monthly report on fundraising progress from a web based database.
• Help plan, publicize, and coordinate special events and activities.
• May help with the set up and clean up of the Fourth of July event.

Pyrotechnics

Volunteers:  Must be over 18 years of age!

• Choreography
• Field Engineering and Construction
• E-Match Technicians
• Field Drop and Wire Crews

The 4th of July Party

4K Race Volunteers:  20 needed from 7:30am until 10:30am

• Route marshals
• Registration and Race Pack coordinators
• Pace Timers
• Water Station assistants
• Timing Chip Collectors

Entertainment Volunteers:  20 needed in 2 hr time slots

• Set Up and Tear Down
• Stage Hands and Artist Support
• Barricade Monitors

Operations/Support

• Restaurant Meals Coordinator
• Meals Delivery
• Parking/ Revenue Collectors and Counters
• Parking/Traffic marshal
• Volunteer Parking Attendant (3 groups)
• Trash/Sanitation Engineers (10 needed from 4:00pm to 9:00pm)

July 5 Clean-Up Volunteers

Volunteers:  50 needed from 8:00am until noon

The day after the 4th is a day of returning the Penn Sate campus to the pristine condition that we found it before our event started. A huge crowd usually leaves behind some residue when they leave. We all pitch in to work on the cleanup detail. Some of the team members have been volunteering for two weeks to get the show ready to go. New people on cleanup day are most welcome. Come prepared to dig in and join the trashiest folks in the valley for 4 or 5 hours. Cleanup begins at 8:00 at the fireworks office trailer.
